The Memo

Wal-Mart has been on the run recently, coming out for a raise in the minimum wage, sponsoring ads in the big newspapers about its environmental initiatives, and agreeing to marginally better health care programs for its workers. In most cases the steps are hollow attempts at getting PR that will stem the tide of criticism it has faced.
